False Bandit Cory (Melini)

Corydoras melini

The bandit corydoras (Corydoras melini) or false bandit catfish is a tropical freshwater fish belonging to the Corydoradinae sub-family of the Callichthyidae family. They require at least a 20 gallon tank, caves and other hiding places are needed, as well as plants to feel secure.

Breeding often occurs after a slightly (1-2 degree) cooler water change. The female is plumper and larger than males; eggs are affixed to aquarium decor and walls after spawning. They should be Kept in groups of at least 3, they are peaceful with most inhabitants. Do not combine with Botias or loaches.

They are often mistaken for Corydoras metae, or Corydoras arcuatus, but these fishes back stripe continues straight into the bottom of the tail. They should be fed on small live, sinking tablets, carnivore fare.
