Indian Gourami
Colisa Fasciata
Like the Thick lipped Gourami, the Indian Gourami comes from India where it noramally inhabits ponds and slow flowing rivers, with a lot of floating plants. The male of the species has an orange body with iridescent blue stripes. The Caudal fin has blue spots at the base and bright red spots at the and. This is one of the most beautiful anabantids for sale. Females are much less colourful.
Although the fish can be kept in regular community tanks, the colouration will be best if there is subdued lighting, some floating plants, and a lot of hiding places. As it is a timid fish, the tankmates must not be aggressive. The Indian Gourami will breed in the home aquarium if conditions are right, building a bubble nest for spawning. The fish are hardy, adaptable t o a wide range of water conditions, but will take a long time to settle into your tank. The fish will eat flaked food, but seem to do best on frozen or live food.
Suggested tank companions: Livebearers, Tetras, Danios, Rasboras, Rainbowfish, Barbs, Loaches, Plecos, and scavenger Catfish.
Approximate Purchase Size: Medium 4cm - 6cm
