These colourful urchins are good at controlling algae in the aquarium, they are primarily herbivorous but they will also take meaty foods and forage on detritus.
The red urchin may not be suitable for reef tanks due to its capability to remodel a landscape which can make it destructive. It is also known to collect rubble and other debris to camouflage against predators.
