Tiger Cowrie

Cypraea tigris

Tiger Cowries are beautiful and active snails suitable for larger home aquariums. They should be kept individually, unless in a very large tank as they need quite a lot of algae to live on.

They require a tank of 400 litres or larger with plenty of sand area in which to scavenge. The Tiger Cowrie is reef compatible and beneficial to a reef setup grazing on all types of algae, micro algae, macro algae and detritus. A natural scavenger they are self sufficient in the home aquarium and should have enough natural food growth to live. A particularly long lived snail they are known to live over ten years in the home aquaria. As they can get quite large they have a habit of knocking rockwork over when fully grown whilst out exploring

The Tiger Cowrie, like all inverts is intolerant to any copper based medications
